WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Health Care Solutions Group Chairman Roy Blunt issued the following statement today regarding Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s “compromise” position on health care reform:
“Washington Democrats in both the House and the Senate have had plenty of opportunities to seek real compromise on health care reform. Instead, they show their true colors at every turn, defaulting to a government-takeover of health care, which will hike takes on small businesses, kill jobs, and put a bureaucrat between you and your doctor.
“Yesterday, after much hand-wringing, the Senate Majority Leader released his ‘compromise’ position: a health care proposal that fails American families and small businesses and still, despite what many will tell you, puts the government in charge of your health care.
“Our goal instead should be making health care more affordable and accessible for everyone, regardless of pre-existing condition, and increasing quality and affordability. We should make sure that Americans who like their health care coverage can keep it and that the changes we make to our health care achieve each of those goals.
“Don’t be fooled by the talk of compromise. Senator Reid’s plan reverts right back to a pathway toward a single-payer system. Once the government is a competitor, it very quickly becomes the only competitor, limiting health care access and options for American families.”
