Ensuring the safety of prescription drugs and medical device safety remain at the top of Rep. Markey’s agenda. In 2007, he successfully negotiated stronger standards in both of these areas into law as part of a Food and Drug Administration reform bill. Additionally, Rep. Markey has fought to ensure emergency preparedness, prevent childhood obesity, and improve the FDA approval process.

Sept. 26, 2008 - H.R. 7114 - Independence at Home Act
- Establishes a three-year Medicare demonstration project that uses a
patient-centered health care delivery model to ensure that Medicare
beneficiaries with multiple chronic conditions can remain independent
for as long as possible in a comfortable environment.
Feb. 14, 2008 - H.R.5442 - Technologies for Restoring Users' Security and Trust (TRUST) in Health Information Act of 2008
- To provide individuals with access to health information of which
they are a subject, to ensure personal privacy, security, and
confidentiality with respect to health related information in promoting
the development of a nationwide interoperable health information
infrastructure, to impose criminal and civil penalties for unauthorized
use of personal health information, to provide for the strong
enforcement of these rights, to protect States' rights, and for other
purposes.
Feb. 16, 2007 - H.R.1165 - The SAFE Drug Act -
To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to establish
additional authorities to ensure the safe and effective use of drugs,
to establish whistleblower protections for certain individuals, and for
other purposes.
March 13,2007 - H.R.1494 - Pediatric Medical Device Safety and Improvement Act of 2007 - To improve the process for the development of needed pediatric medical devices.
