I. Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities

One of my Summer ‘09 interns (and current senior at Texas A&M University) alerted my office to a great program that I wanted to share with you. It’s called Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV). The program, which is geared towards helping post-9/11 military veterans disabled as a result of their service, offers training in small business management and entrepreneurship. Offered at six universities throughout the nation, EBV will help those veterans develop skills and knowledge in a variety of areas necessary to start and maintain a small business. The program is without cost to the participants and includes travel, lodging, meals, and program costs. To learn more about the program and how to apply, visit http://wehner.tamu.edu/ebv/Home.htm.

II. North Texas U.S. Service Academies Forum

Saturday April 17, 2010 (8am-12Noon)
Students and parents are invited to attend an informative session about admittance to the U.S. Service Academies. Special Guest Chad Hennings, Dallas Cowboy and three-time Super Bowl Champion, will talk to students about his experience at the Air Force Academy. Other representatives from West Point, Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, Coast Guard Academy, and ROTC programs will be available as well.

III. Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Contest

Due the week of April 12-16
The contest is open to all high school students. Students may submit artwork of any medium except sculpture. This includes paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. The winner's piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. For more information contact the District Office.

IV. Great Quotes in History

-Thomas Sowell, author of Basic Economics: A Common Sense Guide to the Economy

"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."
-Margaret Thatcher, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (1979-1990)

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives."
-James Madison, 4th President of the United States
