From Normandy to Iraq and Afghanistan, the members of our Armed Forces have served to keep our homeland safe. Veteran Affairs Issues:
My staff is dedicated to making sure veterans receive the care and compensation they deserve. Caseworkers in my district office are ready to assist you in providing answers and solutions. The following are commonly asked questions and answers that might be of assistance:
Most requests can be processed quickly by first filling out the Authorization Form and faxing or mailing it to my Irving office.
Obtaining Unclaimed Medals:
Over the years, I have had the privilege of presenting unclaimed military medals to veterans and their family in the 24th district. Most recently, Euless Mayor Mary Lib Saleh was honored with her late husband's medals including a Bronze Star she was never aware he had earned. You can read more of her story here.
If you or a relative are owed medals from military service but have not yet received recognition, my office can assist you in obtaining them. First submit the Authorization Form to my office via mail or fax, and then contact my military & veterans affairs liaison, John Hayes, at (972) 556-0162.
Veterans History Project:
My office offers the opportunity for veterans in the 24th district to participate in the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project. The project preserves and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may better understand the realities of war.
Lloyd Lewellen is the 35th veteran in our district to particpate in the project through my office. Lloyd served in the Navy during WWII. Below is his story which he gave us permission to share with you. In listening to his story, you'll learn that he witnessed Gen. Douglas MacArthur step out on to the Philippines, an event captured in a famous war photo.
