Petri Supports Free Mail for Troops
WASHINGTON - Congressman Tom Petri has cosponsored legislation, H.R. 5261, to provide free mail service for personal correspondence and packages between the United States and American troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
"Britain provides free mail service. Especially at the holiday season it seems the appropriate thing to do," he said.
Petri said that there is too little time to win
congressional approval of the idea this year, but that he
intended to continue working for its passage in 2005. He
credited State Rep. Barbara Gronemus with calling the issue
to his attention.
