8th District Congressman Lauds President's Call for Spending Freeze

(Washington, DC) – Pennsylvania Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8th District) issued the following statement tonight following President Barack Obama’s first State of the Union Address:

“President Obama made it clear tonight that we continue to face enormous challenges as we work to get our country’s fiscal house in order. Last week, I led a group of moderate Democrats in calling for a freeze in non-defense discretionary spending, and I’m very pleased that the President agrees with me on this, which will save taxpayers billions of dollars. While we have a long way to go to get back to balanced budgets, this is a crucial first step in the right direction.”
