Burton Statement On Democrat Health Plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Dan Burton (R-IN-05) issued the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi's private unveiling event for HR 3962, the Democrats' trillion-dollar government takeover of health care:

"The concerns of Americans have fallen on deaf ears. With great fanfare this morning, the Democrats finally ended their secretive negotiations and announced a health care plan that is very similar to the plan that America rejected months ago. In the coming weeks, I will rally my colleagues and constituents against Pelosi's 2,000 page promise of higher health insurance premiums, new taxes on families and businesses, rationed care and Medicare cuts for seniors, and unsustainable debt."

Health Care Reform Unfortunately, the Obama, Pelosi, Reid bill does not come close to the reform that is necessary to reform the health care system. To keep this short, as you know the talking points, we cannot afford another bill that increases employer costs to hire US workers and drive more jobs to other countries / states. Give consideration to the Boehner bill H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. This addresses the majority of the real reasons for the increasing health care costs. Indiana needs jobs; we are a major manufacturing state and making it harder to hire employees: whether it is cap and trade, health care, mandatory time off, etc. only increases the cost to the employer and deters hiring. Government has to reduce the cost of hiring employees. Various studies prove that all corporate taxes / fees / regulations, etc are paid for by the employees of that company. CEO’s want their jobs so they will return to the shareholders a reasonable return. This return is currently being generated by cutting costs. Since wages / bonuses are many time the largest variable cost, employees will not see wages increases for many years. If there are no wage increases then, federal tax receipts will fall, state tax receipts will fall, sales tax receipts will fall, home prices to fall, property taxes will fall – or taxes will rise decreasing the incentive to work or to own anything. This will lead to deflation and no economic recovery (i.e. Japan). One final thought on the Obama, Pelosi, Reid health care bill, how does taxing, health insurance, health care providers, drug companies, medical device manufacturers not increase the health care costs. Seems to me that these costs / taxes would cause an ever increasing rise in medical care expenses. This will create a spiraling effect of more people falling out of the system. These costs will be paid for by someone, consumers, employees, through decreasing wages. Our Country cannot afford more costs / taxes / regulations at this time. Your job depends on voting NO to increasing costs and voting to yes to decrease costs. Thank you

Thanks for continuing the valiant effort to turn this draconian bill back. Every time Congress starts the effort to nationalize health care ( notice my omission of the word "reform") we get a rush of new service provider increases. THAT is what is wrong with our 'system'. We need to start rewarding the healthy for staying healthy. Let's not punish small business any more. AND let's pass the FairTax. When the people have the money they need to live on, most of them will do what they need to do about their health care. Typical of our current crop of leaders, the public is not trusted to its own device. And typical of our current crop of leaders, taxation is being disguised in the form of health care reform. Let's really give the country some freedom. I have health insurance. I am self employed, and I know what I should do. My wife just ran up a 250K hospital and medical bill with a rare disease. I'm quite sure her public option coverage would have cut her short of a complete recovery. If I were relieved of my tax burden I could much more easily afford my coverage and my stop loss thresshold, and I would much prefer what we have over what we'll certainly get under this "plan".

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND NO VOTE ON 11-07-09. Iam 67 and have voted in every election since I was old enough to vote. I will not FORGET who voted for or against the healthcare bill HR 3962. Please keep fighting for us. Thank you.

Strongly reject any government takeover of the medical program for the United States citizens. Our citizens cannot accept the debt burden that would result from a government run takeover. The civilian sector must continue to be in control! Further, illegal foreigners must become tax paying citizens to receive medical benefits, or otherwise must be returned to their country of origin! Thank you for your efforts to achieve the above. Your email response to these issues would be appreciated. Thanks for doing a good job for us. You always have.

We can fight and scream and holler about the Democrats RAVAGE of our way of life. We don't need more legislation and controls. We need less. We'll wind up like china, the rich socialist(aka communist) will live on one side of town, all the rest of us will live on the other. Will us poor fools keep puttin them back in office. When they get enough power, we won't be able to get them out without a revolution. GOD help us now.

When is the government going to wake up and see what is really going on. We the people of the United States don't need a Health reform! We need insurance companies to stop raising the price. We need doctors that will give top care, but refuse to be overpaid. Insurance and doctors negotiate care prices and doctors take the max without a second thought. Instead of waisting trillions of dollars on a health care reform that this country can't afford, try fixing the problem where it started, at the insurance companies. Who are they to tell you can't be treated for something or long you are allowed to stay in the hospital to receive proper care. Not theirs and deffinantly not the governments. I am just asking you open your eyes to the real problem. Think about it, if you walk into the doctors office with a broken finger tip, he takes a x-ray, looks at it and says yes it is broke, but nothing i can do about it, then bills your insurance company over $300.00 and then when you question the bill and he tells you that is what insurance set it at during negotiations, is that a fair price? NO its not!!! Stop insurance companies control over healt care!

John Brunn - March 5, 2010

Thank you for your stand on this thing called health care! We all know that it is a grab for power! We have tried to tell Mr. Obama that We The People DO NOT want this bill. Thank you for your NO vote!

Joe - March 5, 2010

Please, continue to be open with the flaws and decieving lies about this government health care bill. I am young, but not dumb as this president thinks I am. My family and I are engaged with this plan that will kill the economy. The government will then mandate to buy something, which is against the constitution and take away more of my individual liberty. If this bill passes along with cap and trade bill, the government will have control over more than 50% of the private sector.

N. Bradburn - March 15, 2010

Stand firm against government run health care. It is not the answer to the health care issue.

Leanne Holloway - March 16, 2010

Dan, We DO NEED HEALTH CARE I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS THE RIGHT BILL BUT I DO KNOW THIS MUCH WE NEED SOME CHANGES. I KNOW YOU DONT LIKE THIS BILL BUT THERE ARE PARTS OF IT THAT NEED TO PASS. MY HUSBAND IS ON MEDICARE AND A DIEABETIC HIS MEDS ARE SO EXPENSIVE THAT WE HIT THE DONUT HOLE IN JUST 3 MONTHS THAT LEAVES US PAYING OUT OF OUR POCKET THE REST OF THE YEAR .WHICH WE WILL REALLY HAVE TO STRUGGLE JUST TO MAKE IT. I THINK ITS PRETTY SAD IN AMERICA THAT YOU WORK ALMOST ALL YOUR LIFE AND EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SAVED GOES FOR MEDS JUST TO STAY ALIVE . PLEASE CLOSE THE GAP. IM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT FEELS THIS WAY MANY OLDER PEOPLE FEEL THIS WAY CAUSE USUALLY THATS WHEN WE NEED THE MOST MEDS. WHEN WE GET OLDER. I THINKS ITS PRETTY BAD WHEN WE WILL HELP OUT THE BIG BANKS JUST BECAUSE THEY MAKE WRONG CHOICES BUT WE DONT HELP THE SICK AND OLDER PEOPLE WHEN THEY REALLY NEED IT THE MOST AND IT IS OF NO FAULT OF THEIRS. I DONT ASK FOR MUCH HELP I CAN USUALLY MAKE IT OK ON MY OWN,BUT THIS IS ONE TIME IN MY LIFE THAT I DONT REALLY KNOW HOW I WILL BE ABLE TO HANDLE IT. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME IN MY MARRIAGE THAT MY HUSBAND HAS THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING HIS OWN LIFE SO WE DONT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEMS. I WAS REALLY HOPING THIS THING CALLED THE GOLDEN YEARS WAS GOING TO BE A LITTLE BETTER THEN THIS,AND IT WOULD BE IF ONLY WE DIDNT HAVE TO DIP INTO OUR POCKETS TO STAY ALIVE INSTEAD OF BEING OUT ON A BEACH SOMEWHERE. SORRY I KNOW THIS PROBABLY DOESNT MEAN MUCH TO YOU BUT IT DOES TO US . YES WE DO NEED SOME KIND OF A HEALTH FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE ON EXPENSIVE MEDS. AND ARE ON A FIXED INCOME. I DID VOTE FOR YOU IM NOT A DEM. BUT WE DO NEED A LITTLE HELP NOT AS MUCH AS THE BIG BANKS BUT SOME. JUST CLOSE THE GAP.

Steve and Sarah Martin - March 19, 2010

Dear Rep. Burton, PLEASE continue to stand WITH us AGAINST the Democrat Health Plan and vote "NO" if this actually does come to a vote on Sunday, March 21. To us, it is not "Republicans against Democrats" but Republicans who are standing for right, moral, ethical and fiscally responsible decision-making for the greater good of the United States of America. Thank you. Steve and Sarah Martin Sheridan, Indiana

Pete Steiner - March 21, 2010

Thanks for your efforts in trying to defeat this bill. We will continue to support you and your cause in the future. Thanks.

Nina Richardson - May 3, 2010

Are you wealthy? Do you or your family have the concerns on if they will be ablel to cover the cost of test, medication and treatments? I am an American Citizen who supports this bill and will continue to do so. I'm really upset that you and your republican partners whom are also wealthy could care less about the American people. Someone who is very dear to me was unable to afford treatment; his insurance gave him the run around with being treated and now he is not doing so well. You cannot tell me the reason for the confusion you republicans are causing are simply due to your pockets not being lined or if I should go deeper because who is our president. GOD will not allow the wicked to continually betray the people he has created...including yourself!!! We were made in his image and likeness...so please act like it!!! God forgive them for they know not what they do!!!
