McIntyre Announces Over $18 Million For Southeastern NC Beaches/Inlets, Intracoastal Waterway, and Wilmington Port

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Mike McIntyre announced today that $18,666,000 in federal funds have been secured for the Wilmington Port, Southeastern North Carolina beaches and inlets, and the Intracoastal waterway.

In addition, $95,000 in federal funds has been approved to help re-develop an abandoned Kure Beach motel into an oceanfront park.

Congressman McIntyre stated, “These funds are about jobs and keeping the coastal economy moving forward.  Federal funds are critical to the coasts vitality, and these funds will allow the Corps of Engineers to make critical progress in all of these areas.   It is good to see our taxpayer dollars coming back home to provide jobs and enhance our citizens quality of life.”

The following projects have been approved by the U.S. House and now must clear the U.S. Senate before becoming law with the President’s signature:

  • $373,000 for Brunswick County Beaches
  • $136,000 for Wrightsville Beach
  • $723,000 for Lockwoods Folly River
  • $369,000 for Surf City and North Topsail Beaches
  • $1,352,000 for the Intracoastal Waterway
  • $12,067,000 for the Wilmington Harbor Maintenance Dredging
  • $2,075,000 for Wilmington Harbor construction
  • $666,000 for Cape Fear River Locks and Dams
  • $339,000 for Masonboro Inlet
  • $282,000 for Carolina Beach Inlet
  • $188,000 for New Topsail Inlet
  • $96,000 for the first step in the study process on the NC International Port.
