Mica on Protecting Jobs and the Economy

Nearly every American family has been affected by the economic downturn.  Unfortunately, the Federal Government cannot spend and tax its way to prosperity.

Government must reduce taxes, provide incentives to invest, create private sector jobs and keep employment in America.  Congress must stop the funding of government bailouts and rewarding failed entrepreneurs.  Congress must balance its budget and adopt sound policies relating to financial and investment activities.

Mica Initiatives to Expand Jobs and Business:

• We have brought together small business with leading agencies, private sector resources and financial institutions, with information and assets to expand and create jobs in three District small business forums.  Hundreds of individuals and small businesses who are seeking to expand their current activities or launch new enterprises attended these special sessions.

• To expand exports a seminar was conducted in the District bringing export information and opportunities to local businesses.  Officials from various federal and state agencies including the Export Administration, the Department of Commerce, Enterprise Florida and private sector experts provided assistance to those seeking to gain or expand export activities.  It is estimated that 85% of the future expansion of business will take place in international markets.

• To access business opportunities with local, state and federal agencies, leaders in procurement participated with local businesses in a recent special forum.  Connecting government acquisition with community vendors helps expand their business opportunities and employment.
