The war in Iraq has compromised our national security and diminished our diplomatic standing in the world. I remain committed to bringing our troops in Iraq home quickly and safely. As a founding member of the Out of Iraq Caucus, I have consistently been an outspoken opponent of the Iraq War.

As a subcommittee Chair on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, I have a unique understanding of how the war in Iraq has harmed our national security and jeopardized our global standing.

Fighting the war in Iraq has not made our nation safer; on the contrary, it has hurt our military readiness and depleted our capability to respond to future conflicts or threats.  Nearly half a million members of the National Guard and Reserves have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001, and many have been deployed more than once. Studies have repeatedly showed that the war has stretched our military dangerously thin.
