History of Flags Flown over the Capitol for Constituents

Constituents may purchase a flag that has flown over the Capitol. You may request this to commemorate a specific day or event. However, you should plan ahead as this process takes about four weeks.

A certificate, stating the date the flag was flown, for whom and the event for which it was flown, will be sent to you along with your flag.

The current prices (effective January 1, 2003) for flags are as follows:

Size/Material Flag Flying Postage Total
3 x 5 Cotton $9.25 $4.05 $4.80 $18.10
3 x 5 Nylon $9.00 $4.05 $4.05 $17.10
4 x 6 Nylon $13.50 $4.05 $4.80 $22.35
5 x 8 Cotton $20.00 $4.05 $4.80 $28.85
5 x 8 Nylon $18.00 $4.05 $4.80 $26.85

The chart above reflects mailing costs for flags sent to the 9th District.  These figures should be used as a guideline for the cost of mailing flags. The price may change if flag types are mixed or enclosures are included.

Please make one check or money order (for all three costs: the flag, flying, and postage) payable to: Representative Jan Schakowsky's Office Supply Account.

All flag requests and checks should be mailed to Representative Jan Schakowsky, 2367 Rayburn House Office Building; Washington, DC 20515.  If you have additional questions regarding flag requests, please call (202) 225-2111.
