Washington, Nov 17 -

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (GA-03) would like to extend his congratulations to the House Republicans newly elected leadership team for the 112th Congress.  After their decisive victories across the country, House Republicans met today and selected Congressman John Boehner (OH-08) to serve as the Speaker of the House, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) to serve as the Majority Leader, and Congressman Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) to serve as the Majority Whip.

“As top members of the leadership team during the 111th Congress, Congressmen Boehner, Cantor, and McCarthy served the Republican Conference and the American people well and I am delighted they will be returning in the 112th Congress,” stated Westmoreland.  “Their experience, dedication to fiscally conservative practices in Congress, and willingness to not only listen to the American people but actually include them in the debate are necessary qualities for any congressional leadership team.  I look forward to working with them in the 112th Congress.”

The House Republican Conference also selected Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-32) to return to his position as chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee and chose Congressman Jeb Hensarling (TX-05) to replace Congressman Mike Pence (IN-06) as chairman of the House Republican Conference, who chose not to seek another term as the chairman.  In addition, House Republicans elected Congressman Tom Price (GA-06) to serve as the Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee. Price served as the chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee during the 111th Congress.

“Congressman Price is an invaluable asset to the state of Georgia and the American people,” stated Westmoreland. “His experience, expertise, and steadfast dedication to balancing the budget and getting Americans back to work is just what the doctor ordered in Congress.  I want to congratulate him on his new leadership position and I look forward to working with him in the 112th Congress.”

The newly elected leadership positions will take effect when the 112th Congress is sworn in this January.
