WASHINGTON, D.C. – Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt, Chairman of the GOP Health Care Solutions Group, has cosponsored HR 3823, sponsored by Congressman Nathan Deal (Ga.). Deal’s bill will expand access and choice by providing Medicaid and State Childrens’ Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) beneficiaries assistance in purchasing private insurance, rather than forcing them to take the government-run option.
Blunt is highlighting a health care bill he supports each day for two weeks. Blunt’s Health Care Solutions are designed to improve what is working and fix what is broken in Americans’ health care.
“Choice is a fundamental element of health care access. Mr. Deal’s bill will allow Americans who currently rely on Medicaid or SCHIP the option to use their government subsidy to pay for private insurance if they prefer it,” Blunt said. “For example, they could use their premium assistance to purchase the insurance offered by their employer. Expanding rather than contracting options for patients is what this health care debate should be about.”
Blunt continued: “Over the weekend, House Democrats passed their 2,000-plus-page government-takeover of health care. Nothing I’m proposing is hidden in a 14-inch-thick bill, so let’s have an honest conversation about how to make health care more affordable and accessible for everyone, regardless of pre-existing condition. Expanding health care choices is an important part of that equation.”
