Our Initiatives

Green the Capitol’s success to date can be measured in statistics: the diversion of more than 75,000 pounds of waste from landfills and the cutting of more than 400,000 pounds of carbon emissions and more than 175,000 kWh of electricity.

These accomplishments are possible only with the direction of the House’s Chief Administrative Officer and the cooperation of House staff and partner agencies such as the Architect of the Capitol.

Another simple way to green: make things last longer. At the House, we are extending the lifecycles of many things that would have been replaced or disposed of in the past. Efforts range from refurbishing used furniture to reusing water.
