Klobuchar Bill Naming Alexandria Clinic after Max Beilke Signed Into Law

May 5, 2010

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced today that the President signed into law her bill naming the Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinic in Alexandria after veteran Max Beilke. The clinic is now the Max J. Beilke Department of Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic.

“Max Beilke honorably and impressively served his country and his state of Minnesota,” Klobuchar said. “It is only fitting that a man who spent his life defending veterans’ rights would have his name attached to an outpatient clinic for veterans.”

Beilke, who was born and raised in Pipestone, Minnesota, was a victim of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. He was drafted during the Korean War, sent to Vietnam in 1972, and was officially the last American combat soldier to leave Saigon on March 29, 1973.  After 22 years of active duty, Beilke served as the Deputy Chief of Retirement Services in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel in the Army.
