Klobuchar and Senators Receive Commitment from Delta, Sun Country and Four Other Airlines Not to Charge Carry-on Luggage Fees
April 18, 2010
WASHINGTON, DC— Today U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) announced that she and other senators had received commitments from Delta, Sun Country, American, JetBlue, United and US Air not to charge fees for carry-on luggage.
Klobuchar reported that she had recieved a direct commitment from Delta and Sun Country Airlines over the weekend not to charge the fee. “We feared Spirit airlines’ announcement of a $45 carry-on luggage fee would start a domino effect nickel and diming all airline passengers,” said Klobuchar. “We commend Delta, Sun Country and the other major carriers for their commitment not to charge the fee.”
Last week, Klobuchar and six other senators introduced the Block Airlines' Gratuitous (BAG) Fees Act, or the BAG Fees Act, in response to an announcement that Spirit Airlines would begin charging customers $45 for carry-on luggage.
Klobuchar sits on the on the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security.
