Klobuchar Congratulates Seven Minnesota Schools for Receiving Blue Ribbon Designation

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar congratulated seven Minnesota schools today for receiving the prestigious Blue Ribbon Schools designation from the Department of Education.  According to the Department of Education, the Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools that are academically superior or have shown dramatic improvement in student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students.     

“Congratulations to Minnesota’s Blue Ribbon schools,” said Klobuchar.  “As the daughter of a public school teacher, I know firsthand how important education is, and these schools serve as a shining example of Minnesota’s commitment to quality education.”

In the Senate, Klobuchar has worked to improve America’s education system.  This spring, Klobuchar and her staff held a series of 27 public forums throughout the state to hear the views of educators, parents, students and concerned citizens about the No Child Left Behind law.  Earlier this month, Klobuchar announced that she will introduce the “Student Attendance Success Act” to help schools better address the challenge of truancy.

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan designated over 300 public and private schools across the country as 2009 Blue Ribbon Schools.  The principal and one teacher from each school will receive an invitation from Secretary Duncan to attend the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. in early November.
