Klobuchar Named Chairman of Commerce Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion

Committee will have oversight over Commerce Department, export promotion and tourism issues

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar was named Chairman of the Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion. 

The Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion has responsibility for competitiveness and innovation issues as well as oversight over the Commerce Department, export promotion and tourism issues. 

“The Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion is a critical part of our efforts to keep America competitive in the global economy,” said U.S. Senator Jay Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee.  “I look forward to Amy’s leadership on these issues, and I know her work will help us move the economy in all the right directions.”

 “As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Competitiveness, Innovation and Export Promotion, I will work to keep our country competitive by promoting innovation here at home and promoting our products abroad,” said Klobuchar.  “I’ve seen our potential firsthand -- Minnesota has given the world everything from the Post-it Note to the pacemaker.  I know our country has the talent, the resources, the know-how, and the unique entrepreneurial spirit to lead the world in technology and innovation.”

In addition, Klobuchar noted: “Minnesota has always had a thriving tourism industry.  From outdoors and recreational activities to the Mall of America, Minnesota shines as a vacation destination.  This Subcommittee will allow me to work to further tourism in America.”
