Senator Klobuchar Joins in Great Minnesota Get- Together

August 21, 2008

Falcon Heights, MN - Bright and early at 6:00 a.m. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar joined Minnesotans from across the state for the opening of the 2008 State Fair.

"I love the Minnesota State Fair," said Klobuchar. "It's got everything: The people, the food, the animals, the entertainment and much more. The State Fair is a special opportunity for me to meet and talk with Minnesotans about what's on their minds and what I can do to best serve them in the Senate."

In addition to just walking around and enjoying her favorite fair foods, Klobuchar will have an "office" at the State Fair, located at the corner of Judson Avenue and Underwood Street.

"We're right in front of the snake zoo and diagonal from the haunted house," said Klobuchar. We're also directly across Judson Avenue from the dairy building, where you can find the butter sculpture of Princess Kay of the Milkway."

Klobuchar said this year's theme for her State Fair office is: Top 10 Ways to Save Money on Energy at Home. She will offer practical tips on how people can save money while also saving energy - including everything from buying energy-efficient appliances to switching to compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Taken together, these tips could save a family more than $1,000 per year on energy costs in the home. More information can be found here.

Klobuchar serves on the Senate Environment Committee and co-sponsored the "Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007," which was signed into law in December. The legislation will increase the production of homegrown fuels; improve average vehicle fuel efficiency by 40 percent; phase in the use of energy efficient light-bulbs; create higher efficiency standards for appliances; and provide incentives for high-performance, energy-efficient buildings.

Klobuchar also serves on the Joint Economic Committee, which held a hearing last month on "Efficiency: The Hidden Secret to Solving Our Energy Crisis." Klobuchar will be at the State Fair on both Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22, before she heads to Denver for the Democratic National Convention, where she will give two speeches.

She will return to the State Fair on Friday, August 29. Klobuchar's office at State Fair will be open and staffed for the duration of the State Fair.
