Klobuchar Announces $84,000 Veterans Affairs Grant for St. Cloud Salvation Army

Grant will support expansion of emergency shelter program

July 16, 2008

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced today that the Salvation Army of St. Cloud will receive $84,315 from the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand its transitional housing shelter.

The grant was made under the department’s Homeless Providers grant program.

“This is a nation that wraps our arms around our veterans,’’
Klobuchar said. “When they go into combat, they risk their lives for our freedom and security, and when they come home they deserve the very best services we can give them. This grant will help the Salvation Army provide those services.’’

The St. Cloud Salvation Army operates several programs for those in need, including transitional emergency housing and a community lunch program.

Klobuchar has been a consistent champion of veterans’ issues, cosponsoring legislation to improve their education benefits, provide high-quality health care and streamline training programs for veterans to earn certification as Emergency Medical Technicians.
