Klobuchar Statement on Bush Farm Bill Veto
May 21, 2008
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar released the following statement regarding the President’s veto of the 2008 Farm Bill:
“This bill is vital to provide our farmers and ranchers the support they need. We cannot wait any longer to get it done. We have a strong, bipartisan bill, thanks to the leadership of Collin Peterson and Tom Harkin. It includes a significant step toward payment reform, makes the improvements in the safety net for sugar and dairy producers that I have advocated for, and invests in landmark renewable energy initiatives, while providing for the critical nutrition and conservation programs we need.
“In the coming years, I will continue to fight for our working farmers and ranchers to ensure they can provide America with a safe, abundant food supply and sources of renewable energy. I will also continue to push for additional payment reforms to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and go to our hardworking farmers, not urban millionaires. I am confident that we will be able to override the President’s veto.”
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar serves on the Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee.
