Klobuchar Backs Frank Magill as Acting U.S. Attorney
Department of Justice appointment consistent with Senator's recommendation to appoint internal candidate
January 3, 2008
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today released the following statement regarding the Department of Justice’s appointment of First Assistant U.S. Attorney Frank Magill as Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota:
“I have worked with Frank, both when we were prosecutors and in private practice. I consider him a friend, and have great respect for him and his work. He’s a true professional, and a great choice to lead this office.”
Senator Klobuchar served as Hennepin County Attorney from 1998 to 2006 before being elected to serve Minnesota in the U.S. Senate. As County Attorney, Klobuchar aggressively prosecuted white collar financial crimes, working extensively with the U.S. Attorney’s office while Magill headed the economic crimes division.
Magill has served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney since June 2007. Prior to that, he served as assistant U.S. Attorney since 1990, serving as the economic crimes chief from 1998 to June 2007. Magill received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in 1981 and graduated from Georgetown Law magna cum laude in 1985.
