Sen. Klobuchar's Statement on the Retirement of U.S. Representative Jim Ramstad

September 17, 2007

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar released the following statement regarding veteran Congressman Jim Ramstad’s announcement that he will retire from the U.S. House of Representatives after serving Minnesota’s Third District for nine terms.

“Jim Ramstad is a person of great integrity, who always does what he thinks is right for his constituents rather than simply following the party line.  He fostered a spirit of bi-partisanship in Minnesota and in Washington.  Jim is an exemplary public servant, and he will be missed in the halls of Congress.

“I’ve enjoyed working with Jim – from this year’s pool safety legislation, to our many public safety initiatives during my time as Hennepin County Attorney.   In particular, his dedication to the Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act is a testament to both his willingness to work across the aisle to advance important issues and to his special friendship with Senator Wellstone.”
