Statement of Senator Amy Klobuchar Regarding Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians
September 12, 2007
Washington, D.C. - Senator Amy Klobuchar offered the following statement tonight on the granting of Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians in the United States:
"The Liberian Community has become an important part of the social fabric of Minnesota - they are our neighbors and our co-workers. While Liberia continues to be unstable, it is important that our Liberian community is able to continue to call Minnesota home. This 18 month extension will allow us to continue our pursuit of a more permanent solution."
Klobuchar is already a co-sponsor of a Senate bill addressing the residency status of Liberians currently in the United States.
