Senator Amy Klobuchar Statement on Senate Iraq Resolution to Change Course in Iraq

March 15, 2007

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar today issued the following statement after voting on the Iraq resolution calling for a revision in U.S. policy toward Iraq.

"The message I've heard all across Minnesota is that we need a change of course in Iraq. The resolution I voted for today, much like the bipartisan Iraq Study Group's recommendations, calls for a phased redeployment of our combat troops out of Iraq.

"It's disappointing that while Iraq is mired in a civil war, and our own Minnesota National Guard troops are having their tours extended, some Senators continue to support an open-ended, stay-the-course strategy.

"After four years, this open-ended commitment does not serve the interests of our troops or the Iraqi people, who must stand up and forge the necessary political solutions."
