An adviser to President-elect Barack Obama says at a forum at the University of Minnesota that the country is in a unique position to change its health care system.

Obama adviser Neera Tanden says on Tuesday that people agree that the status quo is unacceptable. She says the public, businesses and health care providers are all demanding change.

Tanden says Obama's health care plan builds on the current system, but emphasizes shared responsibilities between providers, patients and the government and allows people to keep their current coverage if they like it.

The summit was organized by Sen. Amy Klobuchar.

The Minnesota Democrat says that when it comes to health care, the season for politics is over and the season for governing has begun.
