Debunking the Chavez Tour

Mack will issue fact checks every day the week of October 25th on Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez’s recent tour through Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Iran, Syria, Libya, and Portugal. While news agencies reported on Chavez’s numerous stops, the true impact to U.S. security and the failure of U.S. engagement with Venezuela has been negligently overlooked.

Mack Stresses That Crisis in Honduras Not a Coup

At a hearing of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on Thursday, March 18, 2010, Mack stressed that the crisis in Honduras was a not a "coup," and the Obama Administration must stop calling it one.  Mack also stressed that the Administration needs to restore any remaining withheld aid to Honduras at once, and the State Department needs to reinstate the revoked visas of several Honduran officials and Supreme Court Justices.

Mack's opening statement at the hearing, as well as a timeline of events, can be found here.

Mack Releases Report on Honduras Trip

Congressman Connie Mack (FL-14), the Ranking Republican of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, released a report on August 12, 2009, summarizing his recent Congressional Delegation trip to Honduras.

Mack led a delegation to Honduras the weekend of July 25-26, 2009 to see firsthand what the situation in the country was and to determine what happened in the events leading to former President Manuel Zelaya’s removal on June 28, 2009. During the trip, Mack met with Honduran President Roberto Micheletti, Members of the Supreme Court, Members of the Honduran National Congress, human rights organizations, American and Honduran business leaders, and the U.S. Ambassador to Honduras.
