Flu Information

Congress provided $7.65 billion in Fiscal Year 2009 supplemental appropriations for a pandemic flu response, part of which has been used to support the purchase of vaccine and associated costs of planning and carrying out a nationwide vaccination campaign. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), all pandemic flu vaccines and necessary supplies—syringes, needles, sharps containers, and alcohol swabs—have been purchased by the federal government and are being made available to facilities across the country at no cost.

In September 2009, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed four vaccines against the H1N1 pandemic flu strain.  With the vaccine becoming available in early October, federal, state, and local health officials began a voluntary nationwide vaccination campaign, which is the most extensive effort ever undertaken in the United States.  The federal government has announced that 10 million doses of H1N1 will be released every week beginning the week of November 2.

The following online resources provide detailed information on the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccination.   I hope this information proves useful to you and your family.
