AMENDMENT PROCESS FOR H.R. 3231, BARBARA JORDAN IMMIGRATION REFORM AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT

The Rules Committee is planning to meet next week to grant a rule which may limit the amendment process on H.R. 3231, the Barbara Jordan Immigration Reform and Accountability Act. The bill was ordered reported by the Committee on the Judiciary on April 10th, and is expected to be filed by Monday, April 22nd.

Any Member wishing to offer an amendment should submit 55 copies of the amendment and one copy of a very brief explanation of the amendment to the Rules Committee in room H-312 of the Capitol no later than 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th. A link to the form used to submit an amendment to the Rules Committee is provided at the bottom of this page. Amendments should be drafted to the text as reported from the Committee on the Judiciary, which is available on both the Judiciary Committee and Rules Committee web sites.

Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are properly drafted and should check with the Office of the Parliamentarian to be certain their amendments comply with the rules of the House.
