Chevron Pipeline Oil Spill into Red Butte Creek
Chevron Pipeline Oil Spill into Red Butte Creek
On Friday, June 11th, an electrical arc burned a dime-sized hole into an underground Chevron oil pipeline near Red Butte Garden on Salt Lake City’s east bench. The spill sent at least 33,000 gallons of oil into the creek before the leak was detected and Chevron shut down the pipeline. Oil fouled the length of the riparian corridor, Liberty Park and the Jordan River.
