Rep. Taylor Took the Oil Industry to Task at Hearing Print
Newsroom

In the strongest of terms, Rep. Taylor took the oil industry to task during a Capitol Hill hearing by the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

In today's hearing of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) says he is "personally offended" that the ill-fated oil platform Deepwater Horizon was built in Korea and registered in the Marshall Islands,  that the profits it generated went to a company in Switzerland, while Americans suffer the brunt of the pollution created by the platform's failure. He reminded the committee and oil industry representatives that if the people of Mississippi couldn't get the folks in Springfield, Illinois, to pay legitimate homeowner wind claims after Hurricane Katrina, there is no way to get a company that is in Switzerland to pay up.
