Our office offers unpaid internship positions to learn about the functions of the House of Representatives, as well as representation of the 8th Congressional District of Tennessee.

An internship presents a variety of opportunities to participate in the daily operations of our Congressional office in Washington. Preference will be given to residents of Tennessee’s 8th District.

In the busy atmosphere of a Congressional office, it is important that interns possess a mature, professional manner. A well-organized person who is able to take initiative, follow instructions, perform well under pressure and relate well with others is valued highly in this fast-paced office.

General intern responsibilities include:

  • Answering telephones
  • Performing data entry
  • Attending Congressional hearings
  • Assisting with constituent requests
  • Assisting with special projects, including legislative research

Required skills include:
  • Effective and professional phone manner
  • Computer experience
  • Good typing skills
  • Punctuality
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently and thoroughly
