Project to create 500 construction jobs and support development of Waterfront Square

REVERE ---Today, Representative Edward J. Markey, the Dean of the Massachusetts House Delegation, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Revere’s Wonderland Station Parking Facility.   The $47 million, seven story parking garage with 1464 parking spaces supports the plan for the development of the City of Revere’s Waterfront Square Development, a smart-growth, transit-oriented development.   Rep. Markey worked to secure $22.7 million in federal funding from American Reinvestment and Recovery Act to jump-start the construction of the garage.  An estimated nearly 700 permanent jobs will be created as a result of the Waterfront Square project, and the parking garage stands to create 500 construction jobs.

“This project is at the heart of what government investment should be all about, putting people back to work now with the construction of this garage while also paving the way for private sector long term investment in the Waterfront Square Development,” Rep. Markey said..  “This project is a national model for government partnerships.  The City of Revere, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the federal government have all worked tirelessly to make this project a reality.  I have to thank Mayor Ambrosino, Governor Patrick and especially Speaker DeLeo for their vision, dedication, and leadership to make this dream a reality."
