Envisions a economic boost to Winthrop’s waterfront and an increase in tourism to oceanside community WINTHROP, MA---Today, Rep. Markey (D-Mass), the Dean of the New England and Massachusetts House Delegation, was on hand to hail the launch of the new, Winthrop Commuter Ferry Service. Rep. Markey gathered alongside Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, State Senator Petrucelli, and Winthrop Town Officials, to applaud the opening of commuter ferry service between Winthrop Town Pier and Rowe’s Wharf in Boston.
Rep. Markey, a longtime supporter of the commuter ferry project, has secured $2.35 million in federal funding to assist with the creation of this vital transpiration project. The 149 passenger boat will serve as the cornerstone of Winthrop’s waterfront redevelopment efforts, bringing tourists to community where they will be able to take advantage of the beautiful shoreline.
