STEARNS JOINS HOUSE TODAY IN EXTENDING PHYSICIAN MEDICARE PAYMENTS
“DOC FIX” UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2010 IS FULLY FUNDED

Washington, Nov 29 -

“Physicians participating in Medicare deserve to be fully compensated for their services, and I am committed to developing a long-term solution,” stated Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Sixth), a senior member of the House Energy & Commerce Committee that oversees Medicare Part B.

Today, the House approved H.R. 5712, the Physician Payment and Therapy Relief Act.  Explained Stearns, “H.R. 5712 provides a one-month extension of the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula patch for physician payments under Medicare and TRICARE that expires at the end of this year, and the cost is fully offset so that it doesn’t add to the debt.  I will continue to work on developing an alternative payment system that will end these future reductions in compensation.”
