STEARNS TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING HALL OF FAME
CEREMONY BEING HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 30TH AT 7:00 PM

Rep. Cliff Stearns
(R-Sixth), a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C., will
be inducted into the George Washington University Engineering Hall of Fame. Stearns earned a degree in electrical
engineering while attending the university on a U.S. Air Force ROTC
scholarship. He went on to serve
four years in the Air Force where he was assigned to a highly classified
program during the Vietnam War working on satellite reconnaissance.
On leaving the Air
Force, Stearns worked in the private sector before starting his successful
business as the owner of a chain of motels and restaurants in north central
Florida. Due to his business
background and strong record of community service, Stearns was urged to run for
Congress. Stearns is now the
Republican leader of the House Communications, Technology and the Internet
Subcommittee and is under consideration to chair the House Energy &
Commerce Committee in the new Congress.
The George Washington
University Engineering Hall of Fame honors distinguished alumni and staff of
the School of Engineering and Applied Science who have contributed to
engineering, technology, management or public service in a significant way.
