Deadline for Stop Loss Payment Applications is Approaching

Just a reminder that December 3rd is the final day to claim retroactive stop-loss payments. Over 185,000 service men and women had their enlistments involuntarily extended between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009, and they are each eligible for an additional $500 for every month or partial month they were held under stop loss. This payment is in recognition of the hardships placed on these troops and their families by being forced to remain on active duty.

The deadline for applying for stop loss payments is quickly approaching, so it’s important to apply soon if you think you might be eligible. The steps are very straightforward:

  • Go to www.defense.gov/stoploss and fill out a simple form—there are no strings attached. The site includes all of the details that will let you know if you’re eligible for the benefit.
  • Send it back in to the address provided on the form.

With the deadline fast approaching, I strongly urge all eligible troops to submit their claims so that they can receive the well-deserved retroactive pay they earned through their service and sacrifice. When these service members have given so much for their country, it is only right that we provide them with the benefits that they deserve. That’s why I’m doing my best to spread the word about these benefits and asking you to do the same—it’d be a shame if any of these brave men and women missed out on pay that they’ve earned as a result of simple confusion about paperwork.

If you have any questions about this benefit or need any assistance in accessing or filling out the application form, please call my office at (925) 602-1880.
