Reminder: Rebates Still Available for Purchase of Energy Efficient Appliances

Washington, DC – Earlier this year, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act provided states with funds to establish and administer rebate programs to encourage consumers to replace their existing appliances with ones that are more energy efficient. Michigan received with $9.6 million in federal funds for this purpose. A significant amount of funds are still available for rebates.

The Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth is overseeing the Michigan Appliance Trade Up program, which provides rebates for refrigerators, clothes washers and dishwashers with certain energy ratings. This program began on February 10th, 2010.

Michigan residents that replace existing refrigerators, clothes washers and dishwashers with a new CEE or Energy Star qualified appliances are eligible to receive Visa Prepaid Cards ranging from $25 - $100 depending on the model and appliance. As of today, over $4.7 million in funds remain available.

Additionally, Michigan Energy Options has been awarded a grant by the state to provide consumers rebates after they purchase certain energy efficient propane water heaters, heating oil furnaces, propane furnaces and solar water heaters.
