Vernon Elementary School, designed the winning 2010 PRIDE Spring Cleanup t-shirt. Nicey Hazen Bridge opens - The new Nicey Hazen bridge opens, replacing the Billips Avenue bridge. The bridge was renamed in honor of the former Mayor Cumberland, Nicey Hazen, who championed the project starting in 1998. Nicey Hazen Bridge - The new Nicey Hazen Bridge in Cumberland replaces the old Billips Avenue bridge as part of a $31.6 Million Flood Damage Reduction Project for the City of Cumberland. This is the first of six bridges to be replaced or modified. Billips and Hazen bridges - The Billips Avenue bridge (right) was condemned several years ago. The new Nicey Hazen Bridge (left) in Cumberland now provides safe transportation, particularly for school buses in Harlan County. Nicey Hazen Bridge - The new Nicey Hazen Bridge replaces the old Billips Avenue Bridge in Cumberland, Kentucky Hammons Award - Wonda Hammons received a certificate of appreciation for spearheading the PRIDE road signs project in Jackson County. As the county’s PRIDE liaison, Hammons visits elementary schools monthly to lead fun, hands-on activities related to state science standards and environmental stewardship. Jackson County PRIDE - PRIDE Education Project of the Month December 2009: Jackson County students created road signs to welcome drivers to Jackson County and remind them to keep the environment clean.
