Flag Request

Since New Year’s Day, 1776, the stars and stripes of the American flag have flown over government buildings, churches, businesses, and private homes, embraced the caskets of fallen heroes, and functioned as a symbol of unity, strength, and pride in the ideals of freedom and liberty.

On June 14, 1777, Congress passed the first Flag Act. Although the flag has experienced a variety of changes in its lifetime, the basic colors - white for purity, red for bravery, and blue for justice - have remained. The 50 stars, symbolizing divine aspiration, represent the 50 states; the 13 stripes, evoking rays of sunlight, recall the 13 original colonies.

American flags may be purchased from Congressman Burton, with directions given to be flown over the Capital on a designated day, such as a birthday or anniversary. The flag will then be shipped to you with appropriate certification. To order your symbol of American’s history and promise, click here.
