How is the Recovery Act Helping Michigan?
  $1.3 Million for New Western Wayne Family Health Center Facility in Taylor
Western Wayne Family Health Centers, Inc. will receive $1.3 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act New Access Point grant program to construct a new satellite facility in Taylor. The new satellite facility will provide access to health care for an estimated 14,575 patients in the cities of Taylor and Romulus as well as Brownstown and Huron Townships.
$1.3 Million for Ingham County Health Department
The Ingham County Health Department will receive $1.3 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act New Access Point grant program over the next two years. This funding will help provide comprehensive primary and preventative health care services to families, many of whom do not have health insurance. This funding will expand primary care services to provide medical, dental and behavioral health services to 4,766 additional patients throughout Ingham County.
$205 Million in Recovery Package Funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $205,254,001 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will be distributed at both the state and community levels.
$135 Million for Public Transportation Infrastructure in Michigan
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $134,956,466 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for public transportation and infrastructure projects.
$67 Million for Law Enforcement Agencies in Michigan
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $67,006,344 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. The funding will be distributed at both the state and community levels to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system.
$325 Million for Home Weatherization and Energy Efficiency in Michigan
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $325,433,975 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to promote home weatherization and energy efficiency through the Department of Energy (DOE) Weatherization Assistance and State Energy Programs.
$60 Million for Amtrak Upgrades in Michigan
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan will benefit from a $60 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) investment in advanced signaling technology on Amtrak’s Michigan and Northeast Corridor lines.
$3.1 Million in Meal and Nutrition Services for Michigan Seniors
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $3,153,580 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for meals and nutrition services for seniors. The funds will provide meals to seniors in need, restore nutrition services that have been cut and restore positions which may have been eliminated or reduced during these difficult economic times.
$6.4 Million in Additional Assistance to Michigan Hospitals Serving Most Vulnerable
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been allotted an additional $6,489,829 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Department of Health and Human Services to assist hospitals that serve a significantly disproportionate number of low-income or uninsured individuals. The Recovery Act increases the allotment available to Michigan from approximately $259,593,152 to $266,082,981 for 2009.
$100 Million in Federal Grant Funding Available for Public Transit Systems
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan public transit agencies can apply for grant funding in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the Department of Transportation (DOT) for capital investments that will assist in reducing the energy consumption or greenhouse gas emissions of public transportation systems. A total of $100 million will be made available to communities across the nation through a competitive grant process based on proposals put together by local transit agencies and submitted by May 22, 2009.

Levin, Stabenow Announce Nearly $78 Million for Energy Efficiency in Michigan
The funding will support energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits in residential and commercial buildings, the development and implementation of advanced building codes and inspections, and the creation of financial incentive programs for energy efficiency improvements.

Stabenow, Levin Announce $44 Billion in Funding Available to Reform Schools, Save Teachers
U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan can now apply for funding in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through the U.S. Department of Education to help reform our schools and keep teachers in the classroom.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $358 Million for Rural Housing in Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $358,161,033 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide loan guarantees to low- and moderate-income individuals for the purchase of homes in rural areas.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $8.9 Million for Michigan Environmental Clean Up, Clean Diesel Projects
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan received $8,913,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to help assess and clean up underground storage tank petroleum leaks and to support clean diesel projects and loan programs.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $65 Million to Care for Children and Prevent Disease in Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $65,683,257 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) to support child care for working families and to provide funding aimed at making vaccinations available to underserved populations.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $4.5 Million in Emergency Food and Shelter Funding for Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $4,543,475 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Emergency Food and Shelter program (EFSP). This funding will help supplement rent, mortgage and utility assistance programs and help feed and shelter homeless individuals.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that community health centers throughout Michigan will receive $8,712,256 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Increase in Demand for Services (IDS) grant program over the next two years. This funding will assist existing Community Health Centers by expanding operating hours and increasing the scope of medical services offered.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $615,000 in NIH Funding for Wayne State University and University of Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Wayne State University and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor received a total of $615,875 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Wayne State University has been awarded $500,000 and the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor will receive $115,875 to conduct medical research to prevent diseases.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $5.5 Million for Fish and Wildlife Projects in Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan will receive $5,558,500 through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will be used to address long-standing needs at wildlife refuges and hatcheries throughout Michigan.

The funding will be used for a variety of construction and maintenance needs.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and the Michigan Technological University received a total of $1,706,251 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Stabenow, Levin Announce $10.3 Million in Brownfields Funding for Michigan
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $10.3 million in Brownfields grants through both the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and general program funding for the assessment, cleanup and revitalization of contaminated properties, readying them for productive reuse. Michigan received more total grant money than any other state in the announcement issued today.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $2.7 Million for Increased Airport Security in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $2,702,474 from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). With this funding, Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International and Gerald R. Ford International airports are expected to receive explosive detection systems and advance technology X-ray units for checked baggage screening efforts.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $2.6 Million to Help Combat Invasive Species
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan will receive $2,692,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The funding will help protect against and control the spread of the invasive species.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan will receive $4,795,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funding will help finance public safety services in rural communities protect.

Stabenow, Levin Hail $800K for Muskegon County Airport
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $800,000 to Muskegon County Airport through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will be used to purchase an aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle.

Stabenow, Levin Hail $1.7 Million for Sawyer International Airport
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1.7 million to Sawyer International Airport in Marquette County through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The funding will be used to improve taxiway lighting by replacing the existing electrical vault at Sawyer.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $78 Million in Recovery Package Funding for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has been awarded $78,310,613 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the Department of Treasury.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $2 Million for Water and Waste Disposal Treatment Plant Improvements in Manistique
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $2,661,000 to the City of Manistique through the Rural Development Program. The city received $1,995,000 in grant funding and a $666,000 loan from USDA to improve the water treatment plant.

Stabenow, Levin Announce $50 Million in Community Development Tax Credits for Wayne County
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Wayne County will receive $50 million in tax credits awarded through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) under the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.

Stabenow, Levin Announce $45k for Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Pendills Creek National Fish Hatchery (NFH) in Brimley, Michigan, has been awarded $45,500 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The funding will be used for the replacement of the hatchery’s freezer and the installation of energy-efficient T-8 lighting.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $400,000 in NIH Funding
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, Wayne State University, Michigan State University, and Michigan Tech received a total of $416,185 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Stabenow, Levin Announce $430,000 for East Lansing Food Safety Research Laboratory
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $430,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the U.S Department of Agriculture for maintenance needs at the Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory in East Lansing. The lab helps keep poultry consumers safe from avian disease and other viral diseases associated with poultry.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $300,000 for Abandoned Mine Land Closure Project in Ontonagon County
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $340,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to assist in the closure of abandoned mine lands in the Upper Peninsula’s Ottawa National Forest, located in Ontonagon County.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $213,000 for Drinking Water and Wastewater Improvements in Native American Communities
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the Bay Mills Indian Community and Hannahville Indian Community of Potawatomie Indians have been awarded $213,520 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to help improve drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $17 million in Biomedical Research Grants for Michigan Doctors and Scientists
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has received $17,752,438 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for biomedical research and research training. The funding will be administered by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and awarded to 70 different scientists working to advance the field of biomedicine at institutions throughout Michigan.

Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $7.1 Million for Detroit Riverfront Dock and Terminal Construction
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the Detroit City Dock has been awarded $7,139,455 in federal stimulus funds. The funds will be used for the completion of the design and construction of a 200 foot by 40 foot offshore wharf and the design and construction of additional space for the terminal building.

Stabenow, Levin Announce $1 Million for Ferry Dock Upgrades on St. Marys River
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has received $1,175,000 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for ferry dock upgrades along St. Marys River. The funding will be administered by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Funding will be used to lengthen the pier at Drummond Island, modify docks at Neebish Island/Barbeau, and replace deteriorating docks at Sault Ste. Marie.

Stabenow, Levin Announce More than $9.5 Million in Rebates for Michigan Residents Purchasing Energy Efficient Appliances
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the state of Michigan has been provided $9,597,969 for rebates to Michigan residents who purchase energy efficient appliances. The funding, awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), will be made available to consumers purchasing qualified residential ENERGY STAR appliances.

Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $1.9 Million in Grants for Michigan Wind Energy Projects
WASHINGTON —More than $1.9 million will be granted to three Michigan wind energy projects, U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced today. The funds, disbursed by the Department of Energy and allocated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act passed in February, will help Dow Corning, Michigan Aerospace Corporation, and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor develop wind power, which is fast growing as a source of clean electricity across the nation.

Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $1.7 Million in Grants to Monitor Michigan’s Water Quality
WASHINGTON —U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has received $1,702,100 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for monitoring Michigan’s water quality. The funds are being distributed through the Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Quality Management Planning (WQMP) program.

Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $3.2 Million for Essential Infrastructure Projects in Rural Michigan
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has received $3,275,000 to support various infrastructure projects in rural Michigan—$1,155,000 in grant funding and $2,120,000 in loan funding—through the USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities Program.  Funds are made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). 

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $7 Million in Native American Community Block Grants
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has allocated a total of $7,526,274 in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to Michigan as part of the Native American Housing Block Grant (NAHBG) and Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) programs.

Stabenow, Levin Announce $13.3 Million for Michigan Transportation Needs
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $13,343,514 to the Michigan Department of Transportation.  This funding will be disbursed to rural agencies statewide to purchase 47 buses, two vans, five intercity buses as well as used for the renovation and construction of transportation facilities.

Sens. Stabenow, Levin Announce $500,000 to Help Mich. Neighborhoods Struck by Foreclosures
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced $500,000 in funding for distressed Michigan communities to address areas with large numbers of foreclosures. The funding is part of $5.5 million being provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through its Neighborhood Stabilization Program to help local communities purchase, rehabilitate and resell foreclosed properties in especially hard-hit neighborhoods.

Stabenow, Levin Announce More Than $34 Million in COPS Hiring Recovery Funding
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan is the recipient of $34,587,894 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The grants will fund 160 officers in 46 police departments across Michigan. The funds are part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Hiring Recovery Program, which aims to hire and/or rehire community police officers in order to increase city policing and crime prevention efforts.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Over $1.6 Million in Energy Funding for Michigan
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) announced today that Michigan has been awarded $1,639,908 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. This funding will allow eight Michigan cities and counties to develop an energy efficiency and conservation strategy, which details how the communities plan to save energy, reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and create or save local jobs.

Stabenow, Levin Announce Nearly $18 Million for Alpena Biorefinery Project
WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced a $17,944,902 grant to American Process Inc. in Alpena. The federal bond program administered by the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Treasury Department, will allow Michigan schools to borrow at low or no cost up to $425,255,000 to finance the construction, rehabilitation or repair of a public school facility or for the acquisition of land where a school will be built.
