Internships
The Office of Senator Christopher J. Dodd offers internships to qualified students year-round in our state, Washington, DC, and Banking Committee offices.

The deadline for Summer 2010 applications has passed. We are currently accepting applications for Fall 2010.

Program Details

Our internship program offers the following benefits:

  • Experience: Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in the United States Senate. Interns assist the Senator's professional staff with administrative, press, legislative and correspondence duties. This may include conducting research, drafting constituent letters and press releases, reporting on Congressional hearings, and performing administrative tasks.
  • Exposure: Interns become an integral part of our office operation and are exposed to all aspects of the legislative process. In addition, interns are encouraged to take advantage of everything Capitol Hill and the DC area have to offer — House and Senate debates, hearings, seminars and speeches, research facilities, and museums.
  • College Credit: Our office is happy to work with students who wish to apply their internship toward academic credit.
Requirements
The Internship Program is best suited to undergraduate students, although we will consider high school and graduate students. The following guidelines also apply:
  • Priority is given to students from Connecticut in their junior or senior years of college.
  • Priority is given to students who can work full-time — 40-hour/5-day work week.
  • Interns work on a voluntary basis. Although we do not provide a stipend, interns are extended many of the privileges of Senate employees and are subject to both Senate Rules and office policies.
  • Interns are responsible for securing their own housing for the duration of their internship.
  • Interns in Washington, DC will spend about half of their time assisting legislative and press staff, and the rest of their time providing daily administrative support.
  • Interns in Wethersfield, CT will spend most of their time providing constituent services and assisting staff with research and administrative/clerical duties.
