The U.S. trade balance narrowed by $2.5 billion, or 5.3%, to $44.0 billion in September. Exports received a boost from the declining dollar. The trade deficit with China also narrowed slightly, by $0.2 billion to $27.8 billion.
The U.S Treasury recorded a deficit of $140.4 billion in October, the first month of fiscal year 2011.
Initial jobless claims fell by 24,000 to 435,000 for the week ended November 6th.
