Congressional Black Caucus Celebrates The Life & Service Of Representative Julia Carson

December 15, 2007

Washington, D.C.- “Today our hearts are heavy as GOD has called home our esteemed colleague, friend and sister, Congresswoman Julia Carson,” remarks Congresswoman Carolyn C. Kilpatrick (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus. “The true embodiment of a political warrior, Representative Julia Carson rendered the best of herself to safeguard the American dream and ensure equality for all citizens.”

“As a tireless public servant for over 35 years, ‘Miss Julia’ was unapologetically out spoken and equally relentless in her pursuit of parity for women and minorities in Indiana’s 7th Congressional District and across the globe. She was a stalwart for social justice and a trailblazer – serving as the first woman and first African American Indianapolis has ever sent to Congress.”

“Congresswoman Carson lived her eulogy. She left few stones unturned. Her passion for family and community was unparallel. She graced the halls of Congress for 11 years, but she has touched our lives for all eternity.”

“The Congressional Black Caucus, the United States House of Representatives and the world has lost a star and a stripe. In honor of her rich legacy, we will charge ahead and do the business of the people with the spirit and the fight of Congresswoman Julia Carson in our hearts and minds.”

Representative Julia Carson will lie in state at the Indiana State Capitol on Friday, December 21, 2007. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Indianapolis. More details will follow.
