Washington, D.C.- “Today’s Senate vote to confirm Judge Leslie Southwick to the Fifth Circuit Court, which includes Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana, will further mar our judicial system and jeopardize the lives and liberties of Americans. Judge Southwick’s judicial temperament has unfairly punished women, the environment, the workplace, gender equity, civil rights and equal justice under the law for American citizens,” said Congresswoman Carolyn C. Kilpatrick (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
“Judge Southwick does not deserve this lifelong federal appointment. The people of America must speak out and organize for better Representation in the United States Senate and House.”
The Congressional Black Caucus, 42 Members, representing 40 million Americans from 21 states will continue to change the downward course orchestrated by irresponsible legislators, confront the crises of unworthy jurists presiding over the second highest court of the land, and continue the legacy of advocacy on behalf of the American people.
