THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Column By Congressman Dan Boren
Friday, November 19, 2010

Now that November 2nd has come and gone, Andrea and I would like to say thank you to the citizens of the Second Congressional District of Oklahoma for their continued support.  It has been an honor to represent each and every one of you in Congress for the past six years.  Since the founding of our country, only 12,000 men and women have been afforded the opportunity to serve in the United States House of Representatives, and it’s something that I will not take for granted as we begin the 112th Congress in January.

After traveling across the district and visiting all 25 counties this past term, there are two major messages that almost every one of you shared with me – “stop the out of control spending” and “get the economy moving again.”  I couldn’t agree more.

When the new Congress is sworn-in the first week of January, I will continue with the work I have been doing since the last election – speaking-out for a more fiscally sound budget and advocating for pro-growth, pro-jobs legislation.  I look forward to working with the rest of my colleagues in the Oklahoma Delegation, as well as Governor-elect Fallin, to make sure the issues and concerns that are important to Oklahomans are heard and addressed in the halls of Congress.

As Washington and our political system continues to become more partisan and divided, now more than ever it is important to heed voices of moderation and bipartisanship – to come together and work on policies that build a stronger foundation for our nation and that unite us by principles – not divide us by differences.  I believe that reflects my leadership style, and that’s how I will continue to represent the people of eastern Oklahoma.

Over the next year, I will also continue my long standing tradition of visiting every corner of the Second District.  Aside from my regular visits, I will also be hosting open-format town hall meetings in each of the 25 counties of the district so every one of you can come and personally ask me about whatever is on your mind.  As the 112th Congress begins this January, keep an eye out for an announcement of a town hall in your county.

I will never forget that it was each and every one of you that sent me to Washington, and not some party leader.  Just like when I voted against the health care bill, voted against cap and trade, and recently voted against Representative Pelosi as the leader of the House Democrats, I will continue to listen to you.

Once again, thank you for your support and confidence, and it’s an honor to represent you in the United States Congress.

Congressman Dan Boren was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District in 2004. He currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Natural Resources Committee.
