WASHINGTON -U.S. Senator Sam Brownback today applauded Garden City, Kansas, which has received an Education Department grant to be used to assist public schools improve American history curriculum.

"I am certain that Garden City schools will benefit greatly from the Education Department's funding," said Brownback. "It is vital that we do everything we can to equip today's students with the knowledge necessary to succeed."

According to the Department of Education, Garden City public schools will receive $413,354 over five years. The program is designed to raise student achievement in American history classes by improving teachers' knowledge of the subject.
