$7,380,854.00 -- Rail Station and Rail Project Administration
(7/21/09)
The Department of Energy announced these funds will be available to Georgia as part of the State Energy Program:
GEORGIA – $32.9 Million Awarded July 6, 2009
Georgia will implement several programs to improve energy efficiency and renewable energy across residential, commercial, industrial and governmental sectors with SEP Recovery Act funding. Together these programs will advance the country’s energy independence and create and support jobs statewide.
The State of Georgia will use a large portion of the Recovery Act funding to implement the State Utilities Retrofit Program, administered by the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority. In this new program, the state of Georgia proposes to allocate $65 million to retrofit state government facilities. This funding will be used to conduct energy audits and assessments and capital projects to pay for the incremental cost difference between standard and high-efficiency technologies. Proposals for funding will be selected based on the projects’ ability to comply with state and federal energy goals and priorities, including energy independence, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the creation of green jobs.
After demonstrating successful implementation of its plan, the State of Georgia will receive more than $41 million in additional funding, for a total of almost $82.5 million.
Treasury ANNOUNCES $25 Billion
in DIRECT ALLOCATIONS OF Recovery Zone BondS
New Program to Help State, Local Governments Finance Economic Development
WASHINGTON-As part of the Obama Administration's efforts to stimulate economic growth and jumpstart the availability of financing critical for economic recovery, the U.S. Treasury Department announced $25 billion in bond authority available under the Recovery Zone Bonds program. Created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act), Recovery Zone Bonds are targeted to areas particularly affected by job loss and will help local governments obtain financing for much needed economic development projects, such as public infrastructure development, at lower borrowing costs.
Below are estimates for the amount bond authority made available under the Recovery Zone Bonds program to counties in Georgia's Fifth Congressional District:

The Obama Administration will make $2.3 billion available for crucial health and human services programs that help to provide care for children and prevent disease. States will receive $2 billion in Recovery Act funding to support child care for working families. The Administration also plans to make $300 million in vaccines and grants available to ensure more underserved Americans receive the vaccines they need.
$2 billion in Recovery Act funds for the Child Care and Development Fund will allow states across the country to support child care services for more families whose children require care while they are working, seeking employment or receiving job training or education. The funds will be used by states to provide vouchers to families for child care or to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers or invest in quality improvements. Recovery Act dollars will support a wide range of child care providers, including child care centers and home-based programs.

Inflammation and Sub-Clinical Renal Damage in Cocaine-Dependent African Americans |
PROJECT NARRATIVE Cocaine-dependent AAs are at risk for sub-clinical renal damage possibly due to inflammatory causes. This is important when considered in the context of medically underserved populations, in whom cocaine-related risk for renal failure could go unrecognized and untreated. The knowledge gained from this research could be used to make treatment decisions for cocaine dependency, and to design community-level clinical trials to reduce cocaine-related morbidity and mortality in African Americans through early diagnosis and treatment of renal consequences of dependency. |

Effects of mGluR2/3 Activation on Cue-Induced Cocaine Relapse in Squirrel Monkeys |
The goal of this research is to better understand the mechanism(s) by which drug-associated cues are capable of eliciting drug-craving in cocaine-addicted individuals. As craving is a major factor preceding relapse to drug abuse, the results of these experiments may help identify new targets for anticraving and relapse-prevention medications development. |

Older Drug Users: A Life Course Study of Turning Points in Drug Use and Injection |
Narrative/Relevance Recent health studies show an alarming increase in drug use and HIV/AIDS among older adults, a cohort composed primarily of aging baby boomers. Retrospective life histories of older adult drug users allow an in- depth exploration how risk factors are influenced by the social context of drug users over the life course and help to identify turning points in the drug trajectory. By applying what we learn from the lives of older drug users in this sample, the findings will inform research and health initiatives for older as well as younger users, including prevention, intervention and treatment programs. |
