Two New Green Building Offerings: LEED for Retail and LEED Volume Program

Today, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) announced the launch of LEED for Retail, its newest green building rating system, and the LEED Volume Program, a program designed to meet the certification needs of high-volume property developers. New Alliance Seeks Partners to Advance Global Leadership in Our Built Environment

A broad and diverse coalition of over 30 organizations active in countries around the world announced a Call for Partners today for an international alliance advocating for sustainable building practices as a key strategy for combating climate change. The Global Leadership in Our Built Environment Alliance (GLOBE) – led in partnership by the U.S. Green Building Council together with the World Green Building council and its members, environmental organizations, and businesses – will work around the world to educate, raise awareness and generate support from global policymakers, financial institutions and U.N. bodies for cost‐effective investment in sustainable building practices.

Gen. Colin Powell Opens Greenbuild 2010 International Conference & Expo

The U.S. Green Building Council's Greenbuild International Conference & Expo officially started this morning in Chicago as retired Gen. Colin Powell addressed a crowd of 10,000 in the opening keynote hall with a message of leadership and optimism for the future. Powell presented the Greenbuild 2010 opening keynote address at a plenary session that also included a discussion between political pundits Mary Matalin and James Carville and remarks from USGBC President, CEO and Founding Chair Rick Fedrizzi.

LEED Automation to Streamline and Create Capacity for LEED Projects

The U.S. Green Building Council, developers of the LEED green building program today announced LEED Automation, a new program in collaboration with leading technology companies that is designed to streamline and create capacity for the LEED building certification process. LEED Automation enables LEED Online, the online tool projects use to submit documentation and certify LEED projects, to interact with third party technology platforms.

Recipients of USGBC's Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant Program Announced

The U.S. Green Building Council and Bank of America have announced the 10 recipients of the Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant Program. Funded by a $500,000 grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation, the program awards financial and educational resources to help neighborhood projects that have affordable green housing components in their plans pursue LEED for Neighborhood Development.

Greening of America's Schools Summit Brings Together Mayors, Superintendents from across U.S.

The U.S. Green Building Council, which recently launched the Center for Green Schools; the Redford Center, founded by Robert Redford; and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability USA collaborated to host a Greening of America's Schools Summit Nov. 7‐9, 2010, at the Redford Conference Center at Sundance, Utah.

USGBC Announces Recipients of 2010 Leadership Awards

USGBC has named the recipients of its 2010 Leadership Awards, recognizing organizations and individuals who signify vision, leadership and commitment to the evolution of green building design and construction. The awards were presented at USGBC's Greenbuild International Conference & Expo held in Chicago. The 2010 awards recognize leadership achievement in the private, public and non-governmental organization (NGO) sectors.

LEED Rating System Draft: First Public Comment Period Open Through Dec. 31, 2010

USGBC has opened the first public comment period, to run through the end of 2010, for the next update to the LEED rating system. The proposed update is a general technical update to the rating system content, and will undergo at least two public comment periods and a member ballot vote, per LEED development requirements. The first public comment period is open to all interested stakeholders.

LEED International Program Combines Global Consistency with Regional Approach

Since its launch in 2000, the LEED green building certification program has been recognized internationally as the leading benchmark for buildings that are designed, constructed and operated sustainably. The new LEED International Program furthers the global reach of LEED by emphasizing global consistency, enabling a regional approach, and providing local outreach and support. The Greenbuild International Forum, Nov. 16 in Chicago, is an early opportunity to learn more about the LEED International Program.
