Mount Vernon
Tour Summary:
A privately owned estate and garden, once the home of George and Martha Washington. In the 18th century the estate, gardens, and farm totaled 8,000 acres. Today, 500 acres have been preserved. Visitors can see 20 structures and 50 acres of gardens as they existed in 1799. In addition, one can see the tombs of George and Martha Washington, Washington’s greenhouse, a memorial to the accomplishments of 18th century slaves and a museum.

Costs: Adults $13, Seniors $12, Children $6, Children 5 and under are free. A shuttle to the Pioneer Farm Site is available from March 11 to November.
Restrictions: No food or drink except for bottled water is allowed. Gum, strollers and motorized scooters are not allowed in the mansion. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash.

Union Station
Summary:
Rail station newly refurbished in turn-of-the-century motif. DC’s home to Amtrak, buses, taxis, public parking, and many DC tours such as: Tourmobile, Gray Line and Old Town Trolley Tours. In addition, there are restaurants, a food court, movie theaters, post office, a book store, a flower shop, retail stores, public restrooms, pay phones and an ATM machine.

Dumbarton Oaks Garden
Tour Summary: Visitors can wander though sixteen acres of beautiful landscape, through small formal gardens, a Roman-style amphitheater, and down Lovers’ Lane. Collections of pre-Columbian art.

Frederick Douglass National Historical Site
Tour Summary
: A tour of Cedar Hill, the home of the family of Frederick Douglass, one of the most famous African Americans of the 19th century. Includes an overview of his efforts to abolish slavery and his struggle for rights for all oppressed people.

Claude Moore Colonial Farm
Summary: A self-guided tour of the Claude Moore Colonial Farm, a living history farm depicting the lives of a poor, 18th century family on a small tenant farm just on the brink of the Revolutionary War.

Gunston Hall Plantation

: A guided tour of the house focusing on the life of George Mason and his family; they tell of the slaves, servants, and others who worked for the Mason family; and point out architectural features of the house.

Naval Academy
Tour Information: Public tours only, register at the visitor's center. Access to the Academy grounds is limited. Please check the current security restrictions before planning a visit. All visitors over the age of 16 must have a valid picture ID.
Hours: Tours are conducted every half hour from March 1st to Labor Day: Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday tours are given between 11:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. every half hour. Labor Day to Thanksgiving tours are given between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. every hour. Thanksgiving to March 1st tours are given at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. only.
